Newport (Shropshire) and
District Chamber of Commerce
There has been a trading settlement at Newport since Roman
times. The Roman road to Chester (now the A41) passes through the town and
Watling Street (now the A5) passes south west of the town.
For centuries the town has existed as a Market Town for
the surrounding farming lands of Shropshire and Staffordshire).
Newport Chamber of Commerce is one of a network of
Chambers throughout Shropshire, the Midlands and the UK. The Chamber is a
core partner in the Newport Economic Partnership which brings together
representatives of business, commerce, education and local government to
work together for the benefit of the town and the area. It is affiliated to
the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, Training & Enterprise and the British
Chambers of Commerce.
Newport Chamber of Commerce is also
responsible for the Annual Olde Tyme Market which is held in June of each
year and is one of the top attractions for the town. Details:

Members and Visitors are welcome to the monthly meeting of
the Newport Chamber of Commerce which is held at the Royal Victoria Hotel,
Newport on the third Monday of the month at 7:30 pm.

Who's Who In The Chamber

Mark has lived in
Newport since childhood, attending Adams' Grammar School, and now
lives nearby in Edgmond. After working for a bank Mark joined
Henshalls Insurance Brokers in 1988 as Company Accountant, and is
now FD after buying the Company with three of his colleagues in
1999. Mark believes Newport to be a wonderful place to live and
work, and is the current Chairman of Nova United Junior
Football Club.
Henshalls
has always tried to actively support the local Chamber, and Mark is
a former Secretary and Treasurer, and a former Treasurer of Newport
Carnival Committee.

David
Rees, Membership Secretary
David is a
Newport resident and is a former Secretary and Chairman of the
Chamber. He has practised as a solicitor in the town since circa
1993 when he took over the ownership of the long standing firm Jones
and Ferriday Solicitors with Mrs Linda Rees. Having run his
own business for many years David feels that he has a direct empathy
with the responsibilities of his fellow businesses in the town and
indeed the trials and tribulations of actually running one!
In 2006
his firm merged with another County firm,Terry Jones Solicitors &
Advocates, to create a legal practice with offices in Newport,
Telford and Shrewsbury. David deals with business law matters and
general business problems.
